Local information on Bucklebury Village

The small village of Buckebury is one of Berkshires oldest dating from Saxon times and is mentioned in the Doomsday book when it belonged to the Crown.   Lying in the beautiful River Pang valley with a surrounding picturesque rural landscape, the village comprises a cluster of houses and the historic Parish Church of St Mary’s the Virgin which has Saxon origins with later Norman influences.  Nearby are much prized villages of Stanford Dingley, Bradfield, Yattendon and Tutts Clump all boasting interesting historic backgrounds. The hamlet of Chapel Row located at the end of a historic wide oak lined avenue with the trees reputedly planted by Charles I and which leads onto Bucklebury Common which is just over one mile away and has a Post Office Stores a well patronised Butchers shop and the Blade Bone Inn. Newbury, Reading and Thatcham are all within easy driving distance and there are main line stations at Pangbourne on Thames, Theale and Thatcham providing commuter services up to London (Paddington) the M4 is easily accessible at Theale for Chieveley the later also being the nearest access point for the fast A34 linking Southampton and the South Coast with Oxford and the Midlands. CHAPEL ROW 1 ¼ miles * NEWBURY 6 miles * THATCHAM 3 milesREADING 15 miles * M4 at THEALE (junction 12) 7 miles & at CHIEVELY (junction 13) 5 miles * PANGBOURNE on THAMES 9 miles * THEALE 8 miles
